And the moral of the story is...

So what I have learnt from my challenges?
I have learnt that I am certainly not a climber, BMXer or jogger.
I have also learnt that trying new things is fun, but you need the confidence and support to do it. Most of the time when I failed a challenge it was because fear or pressure was holding me back. When I stopped smoking for a day and faced a phobia, I had everyones support and for whatever reason on those particular days I was also feeling confident and brave.
Would I do this again? Hell yes I would, and I will. The next time anyone challenges me or I decide I want to do something, I'm going to do it. One thing I did learn though is that if you are doing something and you REALLY don't want to do it and there is no reason for you doing it, then don't. Even if you succeed you generally won't feel good about it, just miserable that you had to go through the ordeal for no reason.
I hope that everyone has enjoyed my blog and I hope it has inspired you to try new things. I will continue to update this blog the next time I try something new. Thank you all for your ideas and support.
Lots of Love

Challenge no. 22 - How Nice!

Commit 3 random acts of kindness.

Set by Colin Hiles.

Colin is Puffins father, I therefore have to adore him as he partly created one of my favourite people in the world. He is a coach, speaker and writer, www.findingyoursmile.com , so he is all about the inspiration. He has been supportive throughout my challenges, as have most of you, but he is the first person to set me a challenge that is not selfish and will help others.

I racked my brains for this one. I really wanted the acts of kindness to be random, as was stated. So I was constantly on the look out for people to help.

Random Act of Kindness 1

I saw a very distressed looking person, a girl in about her 20's, she wasn't asking anyone for help, but looked as though she needed it, so I went to ask her if she was okay. She explained that she was lost and supposed to be on her way to a job interview and she didn't know where she was or what time it was and was worried she would be late. I can sympathise with this. Job interviews are stressful enough and if you are stressed about one thing it can quickly send you down a spiral of panic. I asked the girl where and what time her job interview was. She told me it was Angel and at 10am. I was heading to Angel myself and had to be there at 10am. So firstly I assured her she was not late and told her to follow me. We got on the tube together, I spent the time asking her if she was okay, where she was from, what the job interview was for, was she nervous? etc. I tried to reassure her that she would do brilliantly and that if she thought confidently and positively it would show. When we got to Angel I directed her to the place and reminded her of the way back, she was also from Essex and had to get back to Liverpool street, amazingly although I am directionally challenged I knew how to get to both the places she wanted to go. Must have been fate. When I left her she seemed a lot happier and calmer, I don't know if her job interview went well but I hope it did.

Random Act of Kindness 2

Walking back from a day at work experience I saw a woman drop a box and the contents scattered everywhere. So I helped her gather her items and put them back into the box.
This is a small act of kindness and I didn't even do it thinking 'oh yes, 1 of my acts of kindness done'. The reason I have included it is because once I stopped and helped her, so did other people and it wasn't a big thing to do, but the woman was very grateful and looked surprised that people were helping her.

Random Act of Kindness 3

I really couldn't think what to do for this one, until I was in a coffee shop. I had brought a cup of tea and a cookie and then it struck me, I decided to pay for the persons after me. I gave the assistant behind the counter 5 quid and told him I wanted it to pay for the next persons order. Again this is a very small act of kindness but I know from personal experience that if you are the recipient of something like this then it can literally turn your day around.

I like to think that I am kind person, however I have noticed, especially from the first act, that it is easy to walk on by and ignore people especially if you are in a rush or have your own worries playing on your mind. However if you stop and help people, it doesn't take long and it will make you feel happier, and it could make someones day or possibly effect thier future, for example if the first girl I helped managed to get the job then (and not being big-headed) but there's a possibly that part of the reason was because I helped her.

Difficulty rating: easy!
Fun factor: hmm, should change it to feel-good factor
Do this if... Just do it!!!

Challenge 21 - Holly the Monster

Become a monster and crush a tiny city.

Set by the Front team.

I went to Front magazine for 2 weeks to do my work experience. On my first day before I got to work Iwas freaking out, I
needn't have worried the guys were true gents and I learnt valuable lessons which will serve me well within the journalism industry, such as how to make an awesome cup of tea.

Front set me this challenge as part of their 'workie challenge' feature.
If you are not familiar with it, go and buy a copy of the magazine. I got off very lightly, as they are such gentlemen, they go easier on ladies
(clearly I wasn't being myself). You might say it's sexist,
but there is no way I was complaining

After a few days at Front, Mike Rampton (features ed) e-mailed me with the brief for my challenge. "You will become a Godzilla/King Kong type monster and crush a tiny city". Perfect. Two of my favourite things are fancy dress and stomping around. Him and Joe Barnes (the editor, who attended Falmouth, proving there is hope for us yet) were the ones to come up with the idea.

I looked at loads of monster photos to get inspiration and how to make costumes. They were all a bit complex but luckily the fashion team (Hayley and Will) were on hand to help. They had some pink fur and I went shopping to find some more. All the fabric shops were closed and the market stalls were closing for the day. Brilliant. However as if by fate, the wind blew one of those apple tray layer things in front of my path. I was struck with inspiration. I excitedly grabbed it and rushed over to the man on the market stall and asked him if it was okay if I kept it. He stared at me like I was a bit odd. 'Oh, I'm on work experience and I need to dress up as a monster'. He continued to stare at me strangely, really, what did he not understand? "It's important, I'd really appreciate some more these apple tray layer thingys'. Like some kind of cockney fairy godmother he granted me my wish.

I wasn't nervous or scared about this challenge. That is, until Mike said to me 'look, Holly, this has to be good, it's going to look rubbish if you don't make the effort, we have to include this in the magazine, so it needs to be good'. Oh. My. God. One tiny little detail that had slipped my mind was that It was going in the freaking magazine.

You can't blame me for worrying the most sarcastic guys I know read Front (I say read, but the magazine has some pretty hot girls in...including me now, ha!) and I had doubts that Front were going to present me as the absolutely perfect, gorgeous creature I believe I am, (you could almost say, they were going to be honest..). If I am honest, I was actually worried about looking fat. Yes. Do I care? No. However, the worry soon passed as I wasn't at Front to look pretty (they even told me, it's not your job to sit there looking not-so-pretty) plus all of my friends have already seen me looking less than demure, so unless I could completely erase their knowledge of me there was no point in worrying about getting ripped to shreds by my friends, which I will. Maybe I could ask my cockney fairy godmother for help?

On the day, I made my finishing touches to my costume and 'set'. What can I say. Challenge completed! My only worry turned out to be when I had a wardrobe malfunction and my 'head' fell over face so I couldn't see anything and I was carrying out this challenge next to a canal. As much as the guys there are gentlemen, they do also like to laugh at people and I'm not sure they would have stopped me falling in the canal.

Difficulty rating: Easy
Fun Factor: So Much fun!!!
Do this if....again, I literally cannot think of one reason why you should not do this!

Challenge no.20 - Meat Free

Be a vegan for the day.

Set by Kayleigh and Collette

Kayleigh set me this challenge as she is attempting to be a vegan for 28 days. I thought she would find it easy, however if you read her blog, you will see the problems it has raised. www.flutterbypink.blogspot.com.

Collette is vegan and she wanted me to appreciate veganism.

I figured this would be really easy, I am not a massive meat-eater anyway. Meat wise I only really eat chicken and bacon and the occasional burger, otherwise I eat vegetarian sausages and mince.

I do not oppose eating meat, yet I also understand why people are vegetarians and vegans.

I have actually been vegetarian at one point in my life, however as it was not for moral reasons and just a dislike of meat I found it hard to stick to and caved when presented with a Nandos.

I knew this would be more difficult than being a vegetarian as I would have to cut out all foods that are the result of animal, so no cheese, no milk, no chocolate, no eggs.

For breakfast I had green tea. It wasn't as satisfying as having a cup of tea with milk and honey in, but it did the job and I noticed it didn't feel as heavy in my stomach as a normal cup of tea.

For Lunch, I normally have a sandwich, wrap or pitta bread with chicken and salad in. Seeing as I couldn't have chicken and I didn't want just salad, I went for the exciting option of chips.

Dinner was more exciting, I made a vegan curry, I used vegetables and beans and lentils and had it with rice. It was delicious.

Normally in the evening or afternoon I have a cup of tea or hot chocolate and dip some biscuits in it, however I couldn't dunk my usual custard creams and I didn't want to dunk biscuits in green tea anyway, so I had a banana. I just didn't feel satisfied, it wasn't the same. I probably could have used this opportunity to experiment and make vegan muffins or brownies, however as it was only for the day, I couldn't be bothered.

50% of the day was easy, 50% was difficult. Dinner was amazing and if I bothered to research I could have probably found something more exciting for lunch and a snack. I should have had the banana for breakfast as it made me feel full for hours, but it wasn't as satisfying as dunking biscuits in tea or hot chocolate.

Although I did realise I could easily go without meat and dairy products, this won't cause any drastic changes in my diet in. I don't feel strongly enough to cut animal products out of my diet. Although I love cups of tea with milk in I liked having green tea for breakfast, my body felt better and lighter than if I had a normal cup of tea. So I may continue to have green tea and a banana for breakfast now..

Difficulty rating: It depends, for one day it wasn't too hard.
Fun factor: not really fun, I should have researched more and made yummy vegan snacks.
Do this if...you want to become vegan, or want a healthier diet

Challenge no.19 - Holly the B-Girl

Learn a breakdancing move.

Set by Sophies boyfriend, Steve aka Bucha

Me and Sophie have both managed to get ourselves freakishly tall boyfriends who have similar interests. So when all four of us are sitting round mine and sophies house, either extreme sports, hip-hop, comedy, girls of the playboy mansion, beatboxing or breakdancing is our choice of entertainment.

Steve set me this challenge as he knows I am insanely jealous of breakdancers and whenever we watch breakdancing I always say 'Ha, I could so do that'. So let's see if I can.

I love dancing. I have done ballet, tap, jazz, modern, latin, ballroom, and I currently do Burlesque. Dancing is one thing I am naturally good at and if I didn't do journalism I would have done dance as a degree.

Even though I am generally a natural at most forms of dance, break dancing is a whole different thing. It requires an immense amount of skill.

First of all I decided I would attempt the worm. I found some tutorial videos on youtube, including one from this guy http://www.youtube.com/watchv=AvHBBL_4wyE&feature=related
it's mega-lolz.

After smashing my lady area on the ground a few hundred times, I decided to attempt another move. I found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2MQj85JnNs which explained 'top-rocking' and how to do a V-position and kick through. I mastered toprocking and V-position and kick through easily, so I went back to attempting the worm.

Basically I looked a fish flipping about when it is taken out of the water, however I eventually managed to do the worm. Once. But that was good enough for me, I learnt a breakdance move and successfully did it, just the once, but I feel if I continue practicing I will completely master it.

Difficulty rating: Quite difficult
Fun Factor: Loads of fun
Do this if....you want to be able to win a dance off.

Challenge no.18 - I'm the man!

Live as a man for the day

Set my brother in law Ash.

I can be described as Ladette in ladys clothing. I like drinking pints, crowd-surfing, playing pranks, being rowdy and hanging out in dive bars, but all the while I do it wearing stilettos, red lipstick and a fabulous dress. Yes, I even crowd surf wearing a mini dress, it puts a smile on peoples face, what can I say!

I figured seeing as I can be quite masculine that this would be a piece of cake.

I wore Dannys clothes, his hoody and t-shirt drowned me, but sadly, despite not fitting me in length, his jeans fit me quite well around the hips. I also wore his trainers, which are like clown shoes on my size 5 feet. Today I did what Danny did and studied my male friends. When we woke up I had a bacon and sausage sandwich, sraight away, this was too much for me. That is far too much meat in one go for me, especially in the morning. For breakfast I usually just have a cup of tea.

Danny and my housemate Vince were in the kitchen listening to hip-hop, normally I complain (not that they ever listen), I hate listening to hip-hop in the morning, but today I just went with it and turned it up.

When they were looking at disgusting stuff on the internet, I looked too. I won't tell you, I don't wish to scar you for life. Usually I will have a quick look and then refuse to watch and exclaim 'eewww'. Today however I just did what they did 'ahahaha, mate that is proper wrong' all the while continuing to watch and then search for stuff similar in sickness and shock value.

I then attempted to play Fifa on the X-Box, I found this fun, I was rubbish, but I was having fun, Danny and Vince were not. They did not like having such an unworthy opponent. So I then had to sit there and watch them play (as usual) which isn't fun, but seeing as I was a man, I pretended to be enticed.

Later on the football was on TV, again I had to pretend to be thrilled. I enjoyed drinking beer and shouting at the TV though. I had no idea what and when to shout, so I made stuff up and shouted random things which I tought were correct, such as 'ooohh, he led the keeper the wrong way' 'use the classic 1 2 formation' 'god, they always try to walk it on' and 'strenghten your defence damn it'. I believe that a lot of my shouts were full of nonsense as Danny and Vince would just shake their heads and laugh.

I had a fun day, despite being forced to watch copious amounts of football. I enjoyed shouting at the TV, I don't generally shout at the TV when I'm watching desperate housewives.

Difficulty rating: The football made it harder
Fun Factor: Fun, yet the football really dragged on for too long
Do this if....you want to blend in with your male friends.

Challenge no.17 - Essex Girls

*I considered not publishing this post, as basically I made a film, and due to me to losing my phone, I lost the film, however it was also filmed on my co-stars phone, so eventually we should be able to get the film posted.*

Re-create the film Essex Boys.

Set by Jamie Bowyer. Jamie and I met last year at college, he is friends with Puffin and a pretty awesome guy to have around. He did media at Cornwall College, made a film about a heroin addict which won an award at Falmouth Film Festival and he now he is completing a degree at Falmouth.
Jamie set me this challenge so I could appreciate the effort it takes to make a film, also because it is a fun challenge.

I was looking forward to this challenge. It was not going to require me to physically assert myself, embarrass myself or consume anything out of the ordinary.

I flexed my creative muscles and decided that seeing as I am an Essex girl and not an Essex boy, to remake the film using Essex girls and instead of drug dealing, the film was centered around dodgy shoe dealing.

The initial problem I encountered was that most of my Essex friends now live in London, therefore we were short of cast members, we were also lacking in props and choice of locations, however we were all set for tacky outfits and make-up.

I figured that as I did not have to make a full length film, it would take about an hour to film. I was so far off. I did not take into account the fact that my co-stars, Sophie and Misti, are total amateurs. God, whats a girl gotta do for some decent actresses who can get it right first take?!

Okay actually, they were awesome and I really can't blame them for laughing hysterically each time we tried to do a scene. When you eventually get to see the film, you will understand why.

ESSEX GIRLS, COMING TO A COMPUTER SCREEN NEAR YOU SOON.

Difficulty rating: Not too hard actaully
Fun Factor: Hilarious
Do this if... you have nothing else to do.
